Modest Minnie Mouse

It's a new month, and time for a new pinny!
I'm so excited to announce April's Pinny of the Month, Modest Minnie Mouse!

This pinafore is so simple, yet so fun and adorable! There's no mistaking that's Minnie Mouse either! ;)

I just got these new mannequins too! I've named them Rosie and Clara (bet you can't guess what fandom those names came from, haha!) I'm a little sad that K won't be my beautiful little model anymore, but she is growing out of the 3T size, and to be honest, she sometimes isn't too fond of our photo shoots either. So a mannequin that I can take pictures of that doesn't mind just "standing around" all day just fits our needs better.

Here's the 3T mannequin. It's fun how the pinafore can be worn two different ways, and still look like the same character!

This pinafore is now available in the shop! Check it out here!

Jammie Dodgers Recipe from Kaye's Cupboard

I have a very special "treat" for your all today! Kayla, from Kaye's Cupboard, is guest posting today a yummy, nerdy recipe that is perfect to go along with the new Timey-Wimey TARDIS Pinafore! I'm super excited, because Kayla just happens to be my awesome sister-in-law, she is a Doctor Who fan too, and her recipe just look delicious! I won't give away any "spoilers" though, so I'll now turn it over to Kayla!

Hello everyone! I'm Kayla from Kaye's Cupboard. I love to find and try out new foods, and I enjoy sharing delicious recipes with friends and family! I started my blog as a way to keep track of my family's most favorite dishes, focusing mainly on simple, fairly easy crowd-pleasers.
I have been so excited about this collaboration with my amazing sister-in-law!! Her enthusiasm about Doctor Who is a big reason why I started watching at all, and I'm very glad I did!

Eleven once told the Daleks a Jammie Dodger was a self-destruct button. It didn't fool them for a minute, but that didn't stop him from enjoying the cookie anyway! I've heard of British "biscuits," but never actually tried any. This is an excellent place to start, it seems!

Very similar to shortbread cookies, but without any of the dry, crumbly texture, these cookies are lighter and flakier with a slight buttery taste. These beauties can be filled with whatever jam your heart desires. We preferred strawberry over grape, but we will definitely try others! I think blackberry would be delicious! With a sprinkling of sugar on both halves of the cookie, the overall combination of textures and flavors is perfect!

Simplicity is such a great thing in this case, because it allows you to truly enjoy each component. It's making my mouth water, just thinking about it! My husband I both had the same idea- we want to make this cookie part of a holiday so that we have a reason to make it at least once a year...although I suspect we will make it much more often than that, especially since they are simple to make, and we always have the few ingredients they need!

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1  1/8 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 3 cup flour
  • sugar, for sprinkling
  • 1  1/2 cups jam
1. Combine butter and powdered sugar in a large bowl until fluffy. Add vanilla and egg yolk and mix with a wooden spoon. Mix in flour, then form dough in to a smooth ball. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate 1 hour.

2. Preheat oven to 375. Spray baking sheets with cooking spray. Place dough on a lightly floured surface, and roll to 3mm thickness. Cut out an even number of large circles with a cookie cutter. Use a small cookie cutter to cut out the center of half of the cookies.

3. Place them on the baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until they are a pale golden color. Be careful not to over-bake. Transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling, and sprinkle with sugar while still warm. Once they are completely cool, turn cookies with no cut-out upside down, spread about a teaspoon of jam on them, then top with cookie that has a cut-out. Cookies can be stored in an air-tight container.

Timey-Wimey TARDIS

Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, oh my GOODNESS!!!
I have just been BURSTING with excitement about finally being able to introduce this pinafore! I must say, I think it is my favorite so far!

Introducing the Timey-Wimey TARDIS Pinafore!

Seriously, I fan-girl squealed when I saw this whole thing put together!

And then even more when I saw the entire ensemble on K!
Bow ties are so cool, are they not? ;)

So, here's the other part that I love. It can be made with an optional vinyl text of "BAD WOLF" on the back! I cannot tell you how awesome I think that is! ^_^

Who doesn't love a bit of graffiti? ;)

Guess what else I like? The windows are pockets! POCKETS! You know what that means?! It means this pinafore is BIGGER ON THE INSIDE! lol!

Sorry for so many pictures, but there were just so many good ones! And I had to include the ones with the sonic screwdriver, of course. ;)

You can head on over to the shop to check out the listing here!

Allonsy!

Bold Batman and Reliable Robin

Da na na na na na na na Da na na na na na na na
BATMAAAAN!!!!

Say hello to March's Pinnies of the Month, Bold Batman and Reliable Robin!

These pinafores were sooooo much fun to make! I personally love how the back looks like a cape and that I was able to put points on the ends of the Batman one. I also just love the idea of a sister duo being able to wear these together. How cute would that be?!

(My friend Emma was kind enough to let us take pictures with her adorable little girl! She is so super cuuuute!)

Seriously, so fun to design!!! Check them out in the shop here!

Peachy Princess Peach

So there's this awesome sewing competition that a friend of mine invited me to join a while back (and by a while back, I mean a year+ ago haha!). It's called Crafting Con and is a sewing competition "for making kids' clothes inspired by your favorite nerdy things." Each month there is a different theme and four different competitors.

Well, this is totally the thing for me, right? Unfortunately, I've been so busy getting all of Little Miss Pinny put together that I missed sign ups for this season. Awwww. :( BUT, they do have a "sew along" for each month where you can make your own projects that are within the theme for that month. They just won't be part of the competition. Sweet! But, like I said, I've been pretty busy with getting my shop started, so I haven't been able to even do the sew alongs...until now!

This month's theme is Super Mario Bros., and I've really been meaning to make a Princess Peach inspired pinafore to go along with the Mario and Luigi ones, so this was the perfect opportunity to jump on it!

Introducing the Peachy Princess Peach pinafore! (Wow, that's about as big of an alliteration mouthful as Partying Pinkie Pie pinafore!)

(Shout out to my little princess! Isn't she adorable?! ^_^)

The pinafore is decorated with heat transfer vinyl and has two blue buttons to represent Peach's blue earrings. I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out, although I wasn't sure how that bright pink looked at first. But I've decided I like it, and it's definitely a fun color!

This pinafore is now available in the shop! Click here to check out the listing!

Radical Ranbow Dash!

Say hello to February's Pinny of the Month, Radical Rainbow Dash!

Like the other Pony Pinnies, this one is also made of 100% cotton and has the cutie mark appliqued to the front. The inside lining is made with rainbow colored material as well as the pocket on the front.

I've had a couple people ask about Rainbow Dash, so I've been pretty excited to get this one done. :)

This pinafore was requested by my cousin, but it is available in the shop as a made-to-order item! It's sure to be just the thing to make your little girl's wardrobe "20% cooler!"

Yup. I think RD approves. ;)

Still Alive!

Hey everyone! I know this blog has been pretty inactive lately. Christmas was so busy, New Years as well, and I feel like someone around here is always sick with something, lol! I also got a new Silhouette machine that I'm hoping will help with replacing all of the applique items with heat transfer vinyl instead. That would mean less time for me to spend sewing, and hopefully lower prices for all of you! But I've been having some terrible trouble with the thing, so we'll see if it even works out. (Boo!)
I've had a couple of commission orders too! One for Pikachu and one for good ol' Applejack! I always love seeing people enjoy the work I've done. And I can't wait to get Applejack done and for all of you to see next month's Pinny of the Month!
So that's where I've been- busy busy busy! And it's great really (minus the sick part). But I just wanted to let you all know that I'm still here and the store is going great! :)
